Bedizen Park 84

The concept for this installation was originally a wacky meditation garden on a space station in the future containing artifacts from earth. The inhabitants of the space station would model different park-type rooms after garden designs of centuries past, but with limited or fragmented information and understanding of earth's history. With the postponement of the show and reflection throughout this past year, the meditation garden remains as the central focus but with one major change. I realized I was making a garden for a future of which I also had limited knowledge, truly not knowing what life would be like, or if I would even still be on earth.

This work is in part a monument to the respite gardening has been for myself and so many this year. The music completes the environment, traversing through a spectrum of emotions, at times discordant, at times joyful, ultimately arriving at peace. My aim is for the garden to provide space for contemplation and a recharging of our present selves to face the future with joy and hope.
